Michael Olunga Scores the first Hat-trick for Girona FC in Laliga
Michael Olunga became the first ever Girona FC player on Saturday to score a hat trick in LaLiga for the club.
Olunga also wrote history as the first Kenyan to score in the top flight Spanish league in the game where Girona thrashed Las Palmas 6-0.
The Harambee Stars forward netted the goals in a span of 22 minutes to help the newly promoted side to ninth position on the league table with 26 points.
Olunga’s goals came in the 57th, 70th and 79th minutes.
President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated the 23 year old for the exemplary performance.
He tweeted: “Congratulations Michael @OgadaOlunga for making history as the first Kenyan footballer to score a goal in the @LaLiga; and the first player to score a hat-trick for @GironaFC in the Spanish top league. Continue flying the #MagicalKenya flag high.”
Opposition leader Raila Odinga also tweeted his congratulatory message saying Olunga’s stellar performance will inspire many Kenyan youths.
“Today’s accomplishment by @OgadaOlunga will serve as an inspiration to all our young people and we are very proud of him. Well done Olunga.”
